When:

When it makes sense to do so, we intend to have a meeting following the Thursday Branch Luncheon each month to discuss recent and future outings and tell fishing stories. Additionally, we will attempt to have one group fishing activity each month during fishing season.

Fishing meetings are currently in conjunction with the Thursday Zoom Chats. All fishermen are encouraged to join the chats to find out what is new with the Fishing Activity. Until in person meetings are re-established, please join the “SIR Branch 62 Thursday Chat” to talk about our exploits, fish stories, and dreams about the big ones with others. We will get back on track as soon as it is safe to do so … let’s all hope that is soon.

News:

Four SIRs, two sons, and two friends descended upon Sitka Point Lodge in the middle of June and spent three days fishing, eating, drinking, telling stories, and a little sleep. We caught our limits of King Salmon, halibut, and rock fish most days and returned with healthy sized boxes weighing nearly 50 pounds of flash frozen fish each. There were no injuries, fist fights, or illnesses among us. We made new friends and got along very well. Many of the discussions were about planning for the 2022 adventure.
John Dieckman caught the largest fish, a halibut, which was in the “slot” so it had to be returned to the sea (halibut longer than 50” and shorter than 72” are in the 2021 “slot”). Mel Waldman caught the largest “keeper” halibut on his Birthday (49 7/8 “ long) and Heber Slusser caught the biggest King Salmon. There were a lot of runners-up.

Where:

Our fishing meetings are held following our monthly Luncheons and during our Thursday Zoom chats. Our outings will be announced there and by email to those who request to be on our mailing list.

We are currently planning another Alaska fishing trip in mid 2023. If interested, please join us at the fishing meeting to hear all about it.

Who:

Currently, we have 11 members in this activity and hoping for more. If you are interested in joining this group, please let Heber know at the next meeting or give him a call or send him an email.

Miscellaneous Information:

Fishing gear and expertise are available from our members. Upon signing up for an outing, gear, lure, and transportation information will be provided.

Please contact Heber Slusser if you wish to join us. You don’t need to know how to fish or have equipment to join in this experience.
